In 1971, 2500 vets, mostly members of VVAW and some who were not, came to Washington DC to exercise their constitutional right to protest and petition their government, which unsurprisingly was not at home when they arrived. Over the next couple of days I will be posting a series of pages from the GI press about the events in DC, as well as, if I can find it on You Tube the only decent speech Senator Kerry ever made. I have decided to publish this group of images, because they have been selectively used, by among others the Swift Boat Veterans, in their 2004 campaign of slander to attack the honor and integrity of those who attended. There is an incredible pathos to this body of work, they are filled with in some instances great joy, tenderness and love and others incredible pain. Like the GI press, this body of photographs bespeaks of great courage under duress, enjoy them (if that is the right word):
